Georgia Zhou Chen, Ph.D.

Associate Professor of Hematology and Oncology, Winship Cancer Institute, Emory University School of Medicine

Dr. Georgia Zhou Chen received her Ph.D. from the Louisiana State University in 1989. After her post doctoral training, she received her first faculty position in University of Texas Dental Branch as Research Assistant Professor in 1992 and then in 1998, she transitioned to a tenured track position at the M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. In 2002, Dr. Chen joined the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute as a Research Associated Professor. Following her stay at the University of Pittsburgh, she joined the Winship Cancer Institute at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.

Dr. Chen has over ten years of experience in conducting research in the area of head and neck cancer. Dr. Chen is a well-trained molecular oncologist with experience in molecular analyses of oncogene expression, gene regulation, cellular signal transduction, as well as in using animal models for head and neck cancer research. She has received multiple R03, R21, and R29 awards from NIH as a PI in study of head and neck cancer and she has generated 35 publications in peer-reviewed journals. She is currently the PI for a research project to identify metastasis-related proteins in head and neck cancer and the co-PI for several projects related to prevention and treatment of head and neck cancer using targeted small molecules and nanotherapeutic drugs.
